Forum is a Hit!
The Katy Tea Party Patriots would like to send a special thank you to all of the volunteers and especially Mr. Kevin Price (host of The Price of Business, CNN Radio 610), Dr. Randy White (Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Katy), Mike Mastrangelio Col. (R) U.S. Army (Katy VFW Post 9182), Mr. Christopher Telschow, Debate Moderator, and our Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Sam Malone, who is a DJ and hosts a talk show on KHMX 740 AM. Because of these individuals’ contributions and candidate participation the event was a huge success.
The event was held at the Taylor High School Performance Art’s Center and over 600 people were in attendance. Many candidates from other races in the area also attended the festivities in order to have a chance to meet with the local voters.
The first debate was for Harris County Republican Chair. Participating were: Mr. Ed Hubbard, Mr. Jared Woodfill (the incumbent), and Mr. Paul Simpson.
The second debate was for Congressional District 14. Participating were Mr. John Gay, Dr. Ron Paul (the incumbent), Mr. Tim Graney, and Mr. Gerald D. Wall.
After the second debate Mr. Greg Holloway of Common Sense Texans presented a video taped interview with all three of the Republican Gubernatorial Candidates: Governor Rick Perry, Mrs. Debra Medina, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
The final candidate forum was given in an interview format. Mr. Telschow interviewed both candidates for Congressional District 10: Mr. Joe Petronis and Rep. Michael McCaul (the incumbent).
Katy Tea Party Patriots goal was to educate voters on the candidates so that they could make knowledgeable choices when casting their vote in the primary election. Our goal is to increase voter turnout. We are seeing in the initial numbers that it worked: Harris county reported an in voter turnout on February 20th in the Katy area, Fort Bend reported 117 @ Cinco Ranch Library 89 @ Uof H Cinco Ranch, and Waller reported 72 @ the Brookshire Convention Center. As a matter of fact you can see a significant increase in voter turnout from the time that we started our GOV campaign and these numbers. What is even more important is that not only did we get membership to the polls, but we drove a well educated confident membership. You just feel more engaged once you have shaken the hand and looked into the eyes of the individual for which you are about to vote.
We have seen a few reports that put a personal “spin” on the debate and do not accurately report the civil discourse of the candidates and courteousness of the audience. We encourage to public to view the debate for themselves at the numerous video links listed on the left.
